Methodology & disclosure
Nothing is hands-on tested yet
We haven’t bought or tested any radio listed on this site. Every spec comes from documents: the FCC filing, or the maker’s own product page, spec sheet or manual. When we test a radio, its page will say so clearly.
Where the data comes from
- FCC grants. Frequency ranges, filed power, rule parts, grantee and grant dates come from the FCC Equipment Authorization System. We currently read them through the fccid.io mirror and link the official FCC OET search. Re-checking each grant on FCC.gov itself is on our to-do list.
- Maker documents. Power claims, water rating, battery, antenna and price come from the manufacturer’s page, spec sheet or manual. Each one is linked.
- Rules. Rule text comes from 47 CFR Part 95, pulled from the official eCFR API, with section numbers cited.
- Dates. Every value carries a “checked” date. Prices change often; treat them as a snapshot.
ERP vs output power
An FCC grant lists either ERP (effective radiated power, which includes antenna gain or loss) or conducted output at the transmitter, and says which. Makers usually quote transmitter output (“5 W”). We show both and label each. We don’t call a mismatch a “lie” when the two figures measure different things.
Rules we follow
- No guessing. If we can’t source a value, it shows as not yet verified.
- Source links on every value, plus the date we checked it.
- We don’t invent or copy range claims. Maker range claims are quoted as claims.
- Corrections: each radio is one entry in a structured data file, so fixing it once updates every page that uses it.
Affiliate disclosure
Right now this site has no affiliate links and earns nothing from them. We plan to join affiliate programs later, which may include brands listed here. When we do, every page with such links will say so right next to the links, in plain words such as “We earn a commission if you buy through these links.” That follows the FTC’s guidance that disclosures must be clear and close to the recommendation (FTC Endorsement Guides FAQ). Commissions won’t change the data: filed numbers are filed numbers.
Not legal advice
Rule summaries are for orientation only. Confirm on ecfr.gov and fcc.gov.
